Muy buenas a todos, trasteando un poco por internet he encontrado estos comentarios sobre la Atom que me parecen bastante correctos para poner aquí, aunque hay que decir que vienen publicados por la casa así que nunca van a ser malos, pero me parece que resumen bastante bien lo que he probado de la tabla y además lo amplían porque se han probado más variantes que las que yo dispongo.

Y ahora os pongo lo más interesante que he leído un poco resumido y traducido como he podido, je je.
Svein Rasmussen:
"Over the last 15 years, we've seen how windsurfing boards have gradually become wider and thinner. That trend is still moving forward, because wider boards plane earlier, and also make a board "work" in a wider wind range. A thinner board is generally easier to control, and can be pushed to higher speed levels, just look at the iSonic development.
Básicamente Svein es el dueño de SB y comenta que la tendencia actual consiste en diseñar tablas más anchas y delgadas porque la tabla planea antes y funciona en un rango de viento mayor, se controla mejor y se le puede hacer correr más.
Scott McKercher:
"I've ridden the board in 5.0 powered up conditions and was pleasantly surprised by the boards comfortable, controllable ride, the exceptional "pop" in its bump and jump ability along with a tight turning jybe and exceptional acceleration out of the turn. But as a teamrider-tester I could easily be labeled as biased, haha!"
Scott, corredor y diseñador de tablas de olas de SB, dice que la ha probado con 5m y que la tabla era muy cómoda (para que este use 5m en esa tabla debía haber unos 30-35 nudos), muy fácil para saltar sin olas (bump & Jump) y en la trasluchada cerrada, y acelera muy rápido a la salida del giro (con 5m como para no salir rápido je je).
Excerpt WINDSPORT Magazine test report:
"Let's get this straight right from the start, the Atom is NOT just another "interesting concept" from Starboard. This board is a super-fun freeride shape that is accessible to a wide spectrum of the windsurfing population.
The most innovative thing about the Atom comes when carving it strapless. Without footstraps you lose the ability to have any upward pressure on the windward strap to help set the leeward rail into a carve. Instead, you need to place both feet on the leeward side of the centerline and carve either toe-side or heel-side like a skateboard or snowboard. This feeling is most dramatic when using the big stock fin and it allows you to play around with different foot positions and stance-widths to affect the way the board carves... endless fun! With straps, the Atom jibes in a typical freestyle wave manner. It is easy to set the rail start the carve and this board is very capable of planing all the way through the jibe rewarding better technique with more exit speed."
Aquí creo que el que habla es un experto de WindSport magazine en un test, y comenta que es muy divertida y la puede usar un amplio rango de navegantes. Comenta un poco de la novedad de navegar sin foots lo cual a mi no me parece una ventaja, luego comenta que con footstraps es más como una tabla de freestyle en el manejo y que es muy fácil trasluchar sin perder el planeo.

"I find the wide wind range the most interesting aspect of the Atom; with a quiver of fins, I used the Atom with 4.5m sails in sea breezes of Western Australia to 9.5m sails in the lighter winds of Thailand. That's a wind range of 9 to roughly 28-29 knots. And besides the widest wind range, the Atom also has a very different feel on the water. Other freeriders will feel somewhat inefficient, not so sporty any more. With its thin shape and low CG, the Atom is alive, sharp and incisive."
El responsable de fabricación de SB, todas los diseños pasan por sus manos antes de salir a producción. Comenta que con varios alerones la ha probado desde velas 4.5 a velas de 9.5 (de 9 a 29 nudos), que es una tabla viva, ¿aguda, acida? e incisiva, es decir que la tabla es juguetona, que no es solo para ir recto y ya está.
Y por último comentan que este año (2011) le han cambiado la cajera del alerón por la Powerbox, yo creo que ha sido para ampliar el rango de aleta ya que con la del año pasado es difícil conseguir una aleta barata menor de 30cm. Comentan que el rango de aleta es de 26 a 40cm.
La verdad es que estoy de acuerdo con muchas de las cosas que aquí se comentan, aunque lo de la navegación sin foots no me parece algo que aporte mucho, al menos para mí, pero si que han ampliado un poco las pruebas que yo había hecho poniendo los rangos de vela y de alerón que se puede usar en la tabla.
Aún sigo con ganas de probarla en olas a ver que tal.
